This is random, sorry.
I am quite a fan of weird 80’s synthpop. The Germans and Austrians were especially good at this genre during the 80’s, but I was actually not familiar with this band in my youth. I only discovered the song fairly recently, when researching the concept of frequently used chord progressions.
This phenomenon is the reason many recording artists are accused of ripping-off other songs (I’m looking at you, Lady Gaga). Which is not to say that they don’t rip off other songs, but the fact that there are only a finite number of chord progressions in existence means it is more likely that it happens by chance.
Comedien Rob Paravonian does an amazing job poking fun at this as he rants about all of the songs that sound like Pachelbel’s Canon in D. If you haven’t heard it, click the link. It is hysterical.
Now, having said all of that: Buffy fans should hear something very familiar when listening to this DOF song. Pay attention at :48, 1:48, and 2:48. The band members of Nerf Herder all insist they had never heard this song before.
You be the judge…
